The priesthood of Levi was founded on mortality—a continuous cycle of priests who served and eventually passed away, bound to a law that could never fully cleanse the conscience. Yet, Jesus broke that cycle.

 

In John 16:26, Jesus indicated that the day would come when He would no longer need to represent us before the Father, since the Father would hear us personally. Direct communion is the Melchizedek order's defining characteristic. Christ's words, "I will never abandon you like orphans; I will return to live with you... in Spirit" (John 14:16), described the indwelling that bestows eternal life and allows us to speak with the Father through Christ.

Jesus’ sacrifice served as the "tithe" that settled the debt of death once and for all. This is the "greater thing" promised—to walk as a people who live forever because His Spirit governs our very existence. TheGoodNewsCast.com is both honored and humbled to be a part of this order.

 

In the Book of Mormon, the prophet Alma articulates this calling as such:

 

"And this is the manner after which they were ordained—being called and prepared from the foundation of the world according to the foreknowledge of God, on account of their exceeding faith and good works... [They were] called with a holy calling and ordained with a holy ordinance and took upon them the high priesthood of the holy order of God." — Alma 13:3-4

 

God has made an unchanging promise (Hebrews 7:21). The Holy Spirit confirms that those chosen by God hear the voice of the Good Shepherd and are being prepared through His guidance to live out the priestly order of Melchizedek.
