The prophet Amos, standing amid the injustices of his time, declared that God’s roar would not be silenced in the face of oppression. In Amos 1, the nations are summoned to the highest courtroom: Damascus, Gaza, Tyre, Edom, and Ammon—each condemned for cruelty, exploitation, and disregard for life.
